Job Overview:

A law firm seeks an experienced Estate and Trust Attorney to join its team. The successful candidate will work closely with clients and other legal professionals to design, implement, and draft estate planning documents. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex estate matters and collaborate in a team-driven environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of estate law, tax implications, and the ability to manage a high volume of cases, ensuring the best outcomes for clients.

Duties:

  • Client and Team Collaboration: Work alongside clients, paralegals, and attorneys to research and implement estate plans tailored to clients' needs.
  • Document Drafting: Draft various estate planning and administration documents such as trust funding letters, powers of attorney (financial, healthcare, funeral), deeds, estate affidavits, and correspondence related to estate matters.
  • File Management: Organize, maintain, and track estate and trust documents, ensuring compliance with the firm’s procedures.
  • Case Tracking: Enter case details, monitor deadlines, and update case status in the firm’s case management software (Clio Manage).
  • Tax Returns: Prepare and review gift and estate tax returns.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of laws surrounding estate, gift, and income taxation as it relates to trusts and estates.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally.
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, especially during busy times such as tax season or year-end.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to interact effectively with clients, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team setting.
  • Discretion and good judgment in handling confidential information.
  • Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; ability to learn Clio management software.
  • Trust accounting knowledge is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or an MBA is preferred.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in good standing.
  • Certification in estate planning or trust administration is a plus but not required.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • In-depth understanding of estate planning, trust administration, and estate tax laws.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Time management and organizational skills, with a focus on efficiency and meeting deadlines.
