Job Overview: A law firm in Houston, TX, is seeking an Immigration Attorney to provide expert legal counsel and representation in immigration matters. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload, engage in strategic legal planning, and represent clients in various immigration proceedings.

Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and present strategic solutions.
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a substantial workload of immigration cases.
  • Visit and conduct intake with detained individuals at detention centers.
  • Prepare and review diverse immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions.
  • Adjust immigration applications/packets as necessary.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations on immigration law changes.
  • Meet with potential clients for strategic consultations and determine necessary case strategies.
  • Develop strategies and prepare clients/witnesses for court/USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to identify possible case benefits.
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for various immigration cases.

Requirements:

  • 1-4 years of Immigration Law experience.
  • Record of advancing legal cases and managing a caseload effectively.
  • Experience with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian cases, EOIR proceedings, detained cases, Citizenship applications, and other USCIS matters.
  • Experience with Case Management Software is preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team-oriented attitude.

Education & Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Texas.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of immigration law and procedures.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with associates and other legal professionals.
  • Excellent communication and legal writing skills.
  • Proficiency in managing a diverse caseload and using case management tools.
