Job Overview:

Location:

Duties:

  • Draft and prepare patent applications incorporating scientific aspects of inventions.
  • Respond to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices concerning scientific and factual matters.
  • Evaluate technological aspects of inventions and research, investigating specific technologies as needed.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve complex patent issues.
  • Serve as a liaison between inventors and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) during the patent application process.
  • Communicate with clients, staff, and PTO personnel through email, phone, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently while adhering to deadlines.
  • Stay up-to-date on technology trends and make recommendations for technology needs.
  • Participate in continuing education to stay current on patent prosecution trends and regulations.
  • Maintain and analyze data used for lawyer and staff reports.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in patent prosecution or a related intellectual property field.
  • Solid understanding of patent laws, prosecution processes, and documentation standards.
  • Experience in handling complex patent issues and identifying solutions.
  • Ability to interpret and draw inferences from research findings and prepare detailed reports.
  • Strong investigative, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical and factual information clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time and tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work additional hours when required to meet deadlines or manage peak workloads.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, material science, or related medical device technology (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).

Certifications:

  • Qualified to sit for the patent bar.
  • USPTO registration preferred.

Skills:

  • Expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Strong technical knowledge in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, or material science.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and time management software.
  • Familiarity with prosecution docketing systems is a plus.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently under deadlines.
