Job Overview:
A reputable law firm is seeking an experienced Real Estate Tax Credits Attorney with over 7 years of specialized experience in tax credit financing. This attorney will work with a variety of tax credit programs and financing structures, including those related to renewable energy, affordable housing, economic development, and real estate. This role requires an in-depth understanding of tax credit laws and the ability to guide clients through complex legal transactions. 

Location:

  • Detroit, MI

Duties:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on tax credits, including New Markets Tax Credits (NMTCs), Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits (HTCs), Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), Renewable Energy Tax Credits (RETCs), and Opportunity Zones.
  • Advise clients throughout the entire lifecycle of tax credit transactions, from initial structuring to closing.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review complex legal documents related to tax credit financing.
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and maximizing tax benefits.
  • Develop and maintain long-term client relationships while managing ongoing transactions.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes to tax credit laws and regulations, providing clients with timely insights and advice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in related practice areas to deliver holistic legal solutions.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in tax credit financing and real estate law.
  • Strong expertise in NMTC, HTC, LIHTC, RETC, and Opportunity Zones.
  • Experience working with renewable energy, affordable housing, and economic development projects.
  • Proven ability to manage complex transactions and interact with high-profile clients.
  • Strong client-facing skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in one or more U.S. jurisdictions.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of tax credit programs and associated regulations.
  • Excellent legal writing, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to engage with clients and colleagues.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
