Job Overview: A highly regarded law firm is seeking a Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group within the Electrical Engineering & Software Team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a dynamic team working on patent prosecution and litigation matters involving cutting-edge technologies. The position is open across multiple office locations, offering flexibility to the right candidate.

Location:

  • Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patents in the fields of electrical engineering, software, and related technologies.
  • Handle patent litigation, including managing discovery, preparing motions, and supporting trial preparation.
  • Work with clients to develop strategies for patent portfolio management.
  • Provide legal advice on patentability, infringement, and freedom-to-operate issues.
  • Collaborate with clients and team members on complex IP matters and contribute to legal strategy development.

Requirements:

  • Experience in IP, with a focus on patent prosecution and litigation, in electrical engineering, software, or a related technical field.
  • Design engineering experience with chip companies is a plus.
  • Preference for candidates with expertise in networking, software, or wireless technologies (3G/4G/5G).
  • 2-6 years of relevant legal experience for Associate candidates.
  • Candidates must be admitted to the USPTO.
  • Associate candidates must be licensed to practice law or have the ability to become licensed in the state of employment. Bar licensure in California is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent academic credentials and strong organizational and analytical abilities.

Education:

  • A degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field is required.

Certifications:

  • USPTO admission is required for all candidates.
  • Associates must be licensed to practice law or demonstrate the ability to be licensed promptly.

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution and litigation.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical concepts in engineering and software patents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and internal teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
