Job Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in tax controversy matters, including audits, administrative appeals, and litigation.
  • Provide counsel on federal, state, and international tax disputes.
  • Advise on tax implications of business transactions and strategies.
  • Develop and implement tax controversy resolution strategies.
  • Prepare and file petitions, briefs, and other legal documents related to tax disputes.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and draft memoranda and opinions.
  • Communicate and negotiate with the IRS, state tax authorities, and other government agencies on behalf of clients.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their business objectives and offer practical, strategic tax advice.
  • Collaborate with partners and other associates on large, complex cases.

Job Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in tax controversy, including audits, appeals, and litigation.
  • Significant international tax experience, particularly with cross-border tax issues and foreign tax credit matters.
  • Licensed to practice law in Washington, DC.
  • Proven track record in handling cases before the IRS and other tax authorities.
  • Experience with U.S. Tax Court litigation is highly preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • LLM in Taxation is required.

Certifications:

  • Must be admitted to the Bar and licensed to practice law in Washington, DC.

  • Strong research and writing skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality legal documents.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.
