A law firm in Boston, MA, is seeking a highly skilled Tax Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of experience in transactional tax matters and tax controversy. The ideal candidate will possess significant experience with federal income tax and a strong background in state tax matters. Experience with tax-exempt organizations is also desirable. The role requires exceptional research and writing skills, a stellar academic background from an ABA-accredited law school, and bar admission for the jurisdiction of practice.

Duties:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance on federal income tax issues, including compliance, planning, and controversy.
  • Handle state tax matters, including planning, compliance, and dispute resolution.
  • Represent clients in tax controversies before federal and state tax authorities.
  • Advise on tax implications of various transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings.
  • Assist in structuring transactions to optimize tax outcomes and ensure compliance with relevant laws.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support tax-related legal strategies.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including tax opinions, memoranda, and correspondence.
  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored legal solutions.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to provide accurate and timely advice.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in transactional tax matters and tax controversy in a law firm setting.
  • Significant experience with federal income tax and a strong understanding of state tax issues.
  • Experience with tax-exempt organizations is a plus.
  • Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality legal documents.
  • Excellent academic record from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Bar admission required for the jurisdiction of practice.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in the state of Massachusetts or eligibility to obtain admission.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of federal income tax law, state tax issues, and tax-exempt organizations.
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing, with the ability to analyze complex tax issues.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong client service orientation with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
