Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Associate to join its distinguished Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation group. The successful candidate will provide legal counsel on a range of employee benefits and executive compensation issues, including the design, implementation, and maintenance of retirement plans, health and welfare programs, deferred compensation plans, and incentive structures. The role will also involve advising on ERISA fiduciary matters and assisting with the employee benefits aspects of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions.

Location:

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on the design, implementation, and maintenance of tax-qualified retirement plans and health & welfare benefit programs
  • Draft and review non-qualified deferred compensation plans, incentive plans, and severance pay plans
  • Counsel on ERISA fiduciary matters and ensure compliance
  • Assist clients with employee benefits aspects of M&A transactions
  • Provide legal advice to a diverse clientele, including public corporations, privately held companies, financial institutions, and tax-exempt organizations
  • Analyze and draft documents related to health & welfare and qualified plans

Requirements:

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law
  • Demonstrated ability in drafting and analyzing health & welfare and qualified plan documents
  • Experience handling ERISA fiduciary matters and M&A-related benefits
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain client relationships
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical abilities

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills:

  • Expertise in employee benefits and executive compensation regulations
  • Strong drafting, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage complex legal matters independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong client management and interpersonal skills
