Job Overview
A law firm is seeking an associate attorney to join its Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team, focusing on asbestos litigation. This role involves representing asbestos defendants in state and federal courts across various industries, collaborating with colleagues and co-counsel in multiple jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will have experience in toxic tort matters, including asbestos defense, and a strong ability to manage complex litigation in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Location

  • New Haven, CT

Duties

  • Take and defend depositions regularly.
  • Research various issues and collaborate with senior attorneys to develop defense strategies.
  • Navigate claims through resolution by dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial.
  • Draft memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Represent clients at courtroom appearances.
  • Coordinate with co-counsel in various jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters, with a preference for asbestos defense experience.
  • Admission to the New York Bar required.
  • Admission to Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).
  • Familiarity with video conferencing platforms (Zoom, MS Teams) for depositions, court conferences, and meetings.
  • Ability to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight travel as needed.
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills for prioritizing workload.
  • Ability to absorb, process, and understand new information rapidly.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain high standards of performance.
  • Professional, cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude.
  • Military experience is welcome.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the New York Bar required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).
