Job Overview:
A regional insurance defense law firm is seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Trial Attorney to join its team in a hybrid role. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in complex insurance coverage matters and will serve as lead counsel throughout all phases of litigation. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned litigator to handle complex cases, work with business teams, and mentor junior attorneys in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Location:

  • Hicksville, NY

Duties:

  • Serve as lead counsel for complex insurance coverage matters in federal and state courts.
  • Manage litigation for insurance coverage issues, including motions, trials, status conferences, and procedural concerns.
  • Draft and review motions, briefs, pleadings, discovery requests/responses, legal memoranda, and other legal documents.
  • Prepare and evaluate discovery strategies, both written and oral.
  • Provide legal counsel and guidance on acceptable legal positions, potential outcomes, settlements, and awards.
  • Handle a caseload efficiently, including scheduling and preparing for depositions and trials.
  • Ensure all administrative tasks (e.g., billing, time tracking, case reporting) are completed accurately and on time.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and ensure client service excellence.
  • Mentor and coach junior attorneys and staff, offering guidance and clarification on legal issues and assignments.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of legal work.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10+ years of litigation experience in a law firm or legal practice, preferably in insurance defense.
  • Expertise in handling general liability, professional liability, construction, complex commercial litigation, insurance defense, or medical malpractice cases.
  • Ability to manage complex cases from inception to conclusion.
  • Strong decision-making, legal analysis, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
  • Strong client service orientation with the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other legal software tools.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of New York.
