Job Overview:
A law firm based in Baltimore, MD, is looking for an experienced Associate Attorney to join their Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. This role focuses on electrical engineering, software, and patent prosecution, with opportunities to handle complex patent litigation. The ideal candidate will have a background in computer science, electrical engineering, or related fields, with a strong understanding of patent law and prosecution.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute patent applications in electrical engineering and software technologies.
• Manage and guide patent litigation cases, providing strategic input and legal counsel.
• Collaborate with clients and other team members on intellectual property issues.
• Perform legal research and analysis related to patent law and technical specifications.
• Prepare and file legal documents, including patent applications and responses to office actions.
• Advise clients on patent portfolios and infringement issues.
• Maintain active communication with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
• Monitor industry developments to ensure legal strategies align with technological advancements.

Requirements:

• Minimum 2-6 years of legal experience in patent law, with a focus on prosecution and litigation.
• Strong background in electrical engineering, computer science, or similar technical disciplines.
• Experience with networking, software, and wireless technologies such as 3G/4G/5G is a plus.
• Membership with the USPTO is required.
• For Associate candidates, a valid license to practice law in Maryland, or the ability to obtain it promptly, is needed. California Bar membership is a plus.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and analytical abilities.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• A technical degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field is preferred.

Certifications:

• USPTO registration is required.
• Maryland Bar membership is required (or the ability to become licensed in Maryland soon).

Skills:

• Proficiency in patent prosecution and litigation.
• Strong understanding of technical subjects such as electrical engineering, software, and wireless networks.
• Effective communication skills with clients and legal teams.
