Job Overview:

A respected law firm based in Boca Raton, FL is seeking a Senior Patent Agent to join its expanding intellectual property team. This position is ideal for a candidate with advanced scientific training and significant experience in U.S. and international patent prosecution, particularly in life sciences. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in safeguarding innovation, shaping IP strategy, and supporting cross-functional legal initiatives across scientific domains.

Duties:

• Assess innovations for patentability across diverse technology sectors

• Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. patent applications

• Manage international prosecution efforts in collaboration with foreign associates

• Provide strategic guidance on IP portfolio development and due diligence projects

• Perform legal and scientific research related to patent law and innovation

• Liaise with clients, attorneys, and business professionals to craft IP strategy

• Participate in interdepartmental projects and communicate with external counsel

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably within a law firm or corporate legal department

• Background focused on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical technologies

• Demonstrated expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications

• Familiarity with patent procedures in multiple jurisdictions

• Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into precise legal language

• Collaborative mindset and professional communication style

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, or a related field)

Certifications:

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), or eligible to sit for the Patent Bar in the near term

Skills:

• In-depth understanding of scientific principles and patent law

• Strong analytical and technical writing skills

• Effective communicator with the ability to present ideas clearly

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities

• Experience with mechanical or electrical technologies is considered a plus
