Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Bankruptcy Associate to join its Commercial Bankruptcy, Restructuring, and Creditors' Rights practice in the Chicago office. The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of experience in bankruptcy law, including trial experience, claims work, preference work, and workouts. The role involves handling all phases of bankruptcy, receiverships, guaranty actions, trustee sales, and related federal and state litigation. Strong research and drafting skills are essential for this position.

Location:

Duties:

  • Handle all phases of bankruptcy, including motion practice, discovery, trial experience, claims work, preference work, and workouts.
  • Manage receiverships, guaranty actions, and trustee sales.
  • Work on federal and state litigation, including defensive and enforcement litigation matters.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel and support to clients involved in bankruptcy and restructuring matters.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and draft high-quality legal documents, including motions, briefs, and discovery.
  • Assist senior attorneys in preparing for trials and hearings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to resolve complex bankruptcy-related issues.

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of experience in bankruptcy law, restructuring, and creditors’ rights.
  • Experience in bankruptcy motion practice, discovery, trial experience, claims work, and preference work.
  • Knowledge or interest in receiverships, guaranty actions, trustee sales, and related litigation.
  • Strong research, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle complex legal matters independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar of Illinois (or ability to be admitted to the bar).

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of commercial bankruptcy law, restructuring, and creditors' rights.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a timely and efficient manner.
