A law firm is seeking a Project Development Counsel with a strong background in project development within the renewable energy or oil & gas sectors, or extensive construction experience, particularly with large-scale infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have experience negotiating engineering, procurement, and construction agreements, operations and maintenance agreements, equipment procurement agreements, and other development agreements. This role provides an opportunity to work on high-profile projects in renewable energy, energy storage, and power generation technologies. Candidates may choose to focus exclusively on renewable energy and energy transition transactions or participate in a broader range of energy and infrastructure projects.

Job Duties

  • Lead the development of renewable and conventional energy projects, including wind, solar, LNG, and nuclear.
  • Oversee engineering, procurement, and construction agreements, equipment procurement agreements, and other development contracts.
  • Negotiate and draft engineering, procurement, and construction agreements.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in project development and finance law.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients and colleagues in various specialty areas such as tax, regulatory, and real estate.
  • Provide representative experience with clients in the renewable energy market on matters including project development (offtake, procurement, and construction) and/or project finance-specific transactions.
  • Engage in law firm project finance experience, preferably in a sophisticated national law firm environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in construction, procurement, and project development.
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating and drafting engineering, procurement, and construction agreements.
  • Strong understanding of industry trends and changes in project development and finance law.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across various specialty areas.
  • Experience with clients in the renewable energy market on project development and/or project finance-specific transactions is helpful.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active Bar membership in good standing.

Certifications

  • Admission to the Bar in Texas or eligibility to become licensed in Texas.
