Job Title: Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney (Japanese Language Fluency Required)

Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking a highly qualified Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney with a focus on U.S. patent applications in the field of electronics and software. This position requires a professional who is bilingual in Japanese and English, as collaboration with the firm’s Tokyo office will be essential. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of direct experience in patent prosecution, including filing and prosecution before the USPTO. Attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment are critical for success in this role.

Duties:

  • Manage and prosecute U.S. patent applications, particularly in the electronics and software sectors.
  • Collaborate with the Tokyo office and other international teams.
  • Draft and file patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate searches.
  • Assist in preparing legal opinions regarding patent validity, infringement, and clearance.
  • Work closely with clients to advise on patent portfolio strategy.
  • Support litigation teams with patent-related matters.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in U.S. patent prosecution.
  • Fluency in both Japanese and English (written and spoken).
  • Experience in handling patent applications related to electronics and software.
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. patent system and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.

Certifications:

  • USPTO Registration (Patent Bar).

Skills:

  • Proficient in patent prosecution procedures and filing systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Japanese.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with patent search tools and databases.
