Job Overview
A prestigious law firm is seeking a sophisticated Energy Regulatory Attorney to join its Energy Practice Group. This role is available for counsel-level attorneys with expertise in energy regulatory matters, particularly in renewable energy sectors such as solar, wind, storage, hydrogen, carbon, electric vehicles, and microgrids. A strong background in federal and state regulatory issues is required, and prior experience with oil & gas regulatory matters is a plus. The successful candidate will represent and advise developers, sponsors, lenders, tax equity investors, and others on complex energy development and finance transactions, including mergers and acquisitions and project agreements.

Duties

  • Advise clients on federal and state energy regulatory matters, especially in renewable energy sectors (solar, wind, storage, hydrogen, electric vehicles, etc.)
  • Provide counsel on energy transition issues, including carbon, hydrogen, and microgrids
  • Represent developers, sponsors, and investors in energy development and finance transactions
  • Negotiate and draft project documents such as power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, and share facility agreements
  • Support clients in mergers and acquisitions and equity/debt financing
  • Manage complex projects, ensuring effective and timely execution
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Lead senior-level review of work and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in energy regulatory law
  • Strong client management, project management, and senior review skills
  • Experience in negotiating and structuring complex energy-related agreements
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to thrive in complex and dynamic legal environments
  • Must be admitted to the Bar of the jurisdiction(s) where the attorney intends to practice
  • Timely admission to the state Bar is required upon employment

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-approved law school
  • Must be in good standing with the Bar of the jurisdiction(s) where admitted

Certifications

  • Active membership in the Bar in the relevant jurisdiction(s)

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of energy regulatory laws, particularly in renewable energy sectors
  • Expertise in mergers and acquisitions within the energy sector
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills for project agreements
  • Ability to manage and lead complex legal matters

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining high standards
