Job Title: Associate Attorney

Location: Los Angeles, CA (Remote option available)

Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its Post-Conviction Relief team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to handle complex cases involving post-conviction matters, such as motions to vacate, expungements, and early termination of probation, with a potential focus on Immigration law as it intersects with criminal cases. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in criminal defense or immigration law and will collaborate across both practices to provide comprehensive legal services to clients. This position is remote, but applicants must be licensed to practice law in California.

Key Duties:

  • Provide legal advice on post-conviction relief matters, including motions to vacate, expungements, and early termination of probation.
  • Manage a diverse caseload of post-conviction relief cases, some of which may involve immigration implications.
  • Represent clients at hearings, providing strategic advice and guidance post-hearing.
  • Assist in criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing when necessary.
  • Assess the impact of criminal convictions on clients’ immigration status, offering legal guidance where applicable.
  • Collaborate effectively with attorneys, legal assistants, and support staff on complex cases.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and draft motions and briefs related to post-conviction relief issues.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in California.
  • Prior experience in criminal defense or immigration law is preferred.
  • Experience with criminal cases at the state and local levels is advantageous.
  • Ability to handle a significant caseload and manage time effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • California State Bar License required.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in legal research and writing.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues and clients.
  • Familiarity with post-conviction relief processes and immigration law.
