Job Overview:
A reputable law firm is currently hiring an associate-level attorney to join its Labor & Employment practice group. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled attorney to work on a wide range of labor and employment issues, including traditional labor/union matters, collective bargaining, discrimination laws, wage and hour laws, and other areas affecting the employer-employee relationship.

Location:

  • Buffalo, NY

Duties:

  • Conduct legal research on a variety of labor and employment matters.
  • Draft handbooks, policies, and position statements.
  • Respond to administrative charges from agencies such as the EEOC and state commissions on human rights.
  • Communicate with clients to gather information necessary for legal proceedings.
  • Draft motions for state and federal court matters.
  • Prepare responses to discovery requests.
  • Draft deposition outlines, prepare exhibits, and assist in witness preparation.
  • Serve as first or second chair in depositions.
  • Assist in preparing for and attending mediations, arbitrations, oral arguments, hearings, and trials.
  • Maintain an annual billable hours requirement of 1,800 hours.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in labor and employment or litigation law.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar is preferred or ability to waive in.
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the state bar.
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to absorb and process new information quickly.
  • High professional standards, with a strong sense of responsibility and dedication.
  • Cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Military experience is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (required).
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar (preferred, or ability to waive in).
