Job Overview: A dynamic law firm is seeking a dedicated and passionate Civil Rights Associate Attorney to join its litigation team. This position provides an exciting opportunity to represent individuals whose civil rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience, strong intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to advancing civil rights through the legal process. This role offers the opportunity to shape case law and be an advocate for justice in the civil rights space.
Location: Portland, OR
Duties:
Screen potential civil rights cases, conducting in-depth legal research to assess the merits of the case
Participate in all phases of civil rights litigation from inception to resolution
Draft and prepare pleadings, manage discovery, and conduct legal research
Research, write, and argue complex motions
Take and defend depositions
Make court appearances as necessary
Work closely with clients from diverse backgrounds, including incarcerated individuals
Collaborate with senior attorneys and legal teams on case strategy and development
Requirements:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Active license to practice law
2-5 years of litigation experience, with preference given to civil rights, constitutional law, or trial experience
Strong research and legal writing skills, particularly in drafting complex motions and case law development
Experience in handling depositions, court hearings, and appeals
A deep interest in civil rights advocacy and case law development
Passion for justice and advancing civil rights through litigation
Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team
Education:
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
