A law firm seeks a dedicated Associate Attorney to join an expanding practice in environmental and water law located in Sacramento. This role will focus on providing advisory, transactional, and litigation services to public agencies, agricultural interests, and tribal rights. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for environmental advocacy and a commitment to delivering high-quality legal support.

Duties

  • Provide legal counsel on environmental and water law matters for both public and private clients.
  • Work with public sector clients, including cities, counties, and special districts, demonstrating knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and Conflicts of Interest.
  • Assist in preparing discovery materials and pleadings for litigation or adversarial proceedings before state administrative agencies, such as the State Water Resources Control Board.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis, adhering to specific timelines for projects.
  • Draft a range of legal documents, including client memorandums and motions in adversarial proceedings.
  • Manage the preparation and response to written discovery with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, showcasing professionalism and expertise in environmental and labor law matters.
  • Take ownership of assigned matters and develop actionable plans to address legal issues.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of experience in environmental and/or water law.
  • Familiarity with public sector clients and relevant regulations, including the Brown Act and Public Records Act.
  • Proven experience in preparing litigation materials for administrative agencies.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admitted to practice law in California and in good standing.
