A law firm seeks an associate to join its Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice group in New York. This role involves providing legal guidance on employee benefits, compensation plans, and related matters for a diverse range of clients. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in employee benefits and compensation law and be licensed to practice in New York.

Duties

  • Advise clients on employee benefits and executive compensation matters in connection with mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, and other corporate activities.
  • Draft and negotiate compensation arrangements, employment agreements, and benefit plans.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant federal and state laws, including ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients on equity compensation, retirement plans, and deferred compensation arrangements.
  • Collaborate with other practice groups, including corporate and tax, to support transactional matters.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation within a law firm setting.
  • Familiarity with employee benefit and compensation aspects of corporate transactions.
  • Strong understanding of relevant laws, including ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school with a record of academic excellence.

Certifications

  • Admitted to practice law in New York or eligible for admission.

Skills

  • Proficiency in drafting and negotiating complex employee benefits and executive compensation documents.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for advising clients and working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to analyze and address complex legal and regulatory issues.
