Job Overview: A law firm seeks a meticulous and client-centered Oil & Gas Title Attorney with experience in New Mexico oil and gas law. Duties:

  • Title Examination: Conduct thorough title examinations to assess ownership of oil and gas properties, analyzing deeds, leases, and contracts to confirm ownership rights.
  • Title Opinions: Draft title opinions that identify any ownership defects, liens, or issues affecting property use or ownership.
  • Due Diligence: Perform due diligence reviews for mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures related to oil and gas transactions.
  • Contract Drafting and Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts such as leases, joint operating agreements, and purchase and sale agreements, ensuring alignment with legal standards and client interests.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed of relevant federal, state, and local regulations affecting oil and gas operations.
  • Litigation Support: Collaborate with litigation attorneys on disputes related to oil and gas titles, as needed.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members to ensure smooth execution of legal transactions, fostering a culture of trust, integrity, and teamwork.
  • Billable Requirements: Meet a quarterly billable target of 450 hours.
  • Continuous Learning: Actively engage in professional development opportunities and pursue skill enhancement.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with an active license and a minimum of three years experience in drafting title opinions covering lands in New Mexico.
  • Familiarity with preparing large, unit-wide division orders with tract and allocation factors.
  • Strong ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and attend to detail effectively.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active bar license in New Mexico or a willingness to become licensed, if required for role responsibilities.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of New Mexico oil and gas law and title examination procedures.
  • Advanced legal research and document review skills.
  • Effective communication abilities, both verbal and written, for client interaction and team collaboration.
