Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an Immigration Attorney for an exciting Associate position in their Houston, TX office. This is a growth-oriented opportunity for an attorney passionate about immigration law, offering substantial room for professional development. The successful candidate will manage their caseload, interact with clients, and work closely with the firm's Immigration Team, including attorneys and legal assistants. This role provides a chance to gain valuable experience while contributing to the firm’s ongoing success in the immigration field.

Location:

  • Houston, TX

Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and develop strategic solutions for clients.
  • Represent both non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a diverse caseload and ensure timely resolution of cases.
  • Conduct client intake visits at detention centers for detained individuals.
  • Prepare immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions.
  • Review and edit immigration applications and supporting documents.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations on immigration law updates and changes.
  • Meet with potential clients, conduct consultations, and determine case strategies.
  • Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court hearings and USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to identify potential benefits for clients’ cases.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for various immigration matters.

Requirements:

  • At least 1 to 4 years of experience in immigration law.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload and advance legal cases.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Preferably bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong client relationships.
  • Experience in family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR proceedings, detained cases, citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
  • Familiarity with case management software preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice law (Texas Bar preferred).

Skills:

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex immigration issues clearly to clients.
  • Skilled in developing case strategies and working through the complexities of immigration law.
  • Proficiency in case management software and legal research tools.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Client-focused with excellent interpersonal skills.
