A law firm in Cerritos, CA, is seeking a Construction Law Associate Attorney to join their team. This position requires a professional with solid experience in construction law, including arbitration and trial preparation, as well as expertise in handling construction contract claims. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong skills in drafting legal documents, managing discovery, and interfacing with clients while contributing effectively to the firm's construction law practice.

Duties:

  • Manage and support construction-related legal matters, including arbitration and trial preparation, with practical experience in participating in arbitrations or trials.
  • Provide expertise in mechanic’s lien law, stop notices, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, and payment and performance bonds.
  • Handle construction claims related to contract extras, delay damages, impact damages, and the assessment of liquidated damages.
  • Apply knowledge of alternate project delivery methods and relevant construction law.
  • Conduct depositions of percipient and expert witnesses, and manage law and motion practice involving substantive law and discovery issues.
  • Develop and execute discovery plans, including drafting and responding to written discovery.
  • Draft motions, deposition summaries, and correspondence related to construction litigation issues.
  • Interface with clients professionally, providing clear communication on legal and strategic issues in construction litigation.
  • Take ownership of legal matters, developing and implementing effective courses of action with appropriate supervision and oversight.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience handling construction contract claims, both public and private, with a focus on construction contract claims rather than construction defect work.
  • Demonstrated experience with arbitration and trial preparation.
  • Knowledge and experience in mechanic’s lien law, stop notices, bid protests, public contract law, prompt payment law, and payment and performance bonds.
  • Experience managing construction claims related to contract extras, delay damages, impact damages, and liquidated damages.
  • Familiarity with alternate project delivery methods and substantive construction law.
  • Experience with depositions, both as to percipient and expert witnesses, and managing law and motion practice.
  • Proficiency in drafting and managing discovery plans, legal documents, and correspondence related to construction litigation.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the state bar where the firm operates (California, in this case).

Skills:

  • Expertise in construction law and litigation, including arbitration and trial preparation.
  • Strong writing skills for drafting motions, depositions, and correspondence.
