Job Overview
A growing family and elder law firm is seeking an experienced Estate Planning Attorney to join its Fort Mill, SC office. This role involves handling estates, trusts, wills, and elder law cases, with the opportunity to contribute to the firm’s expansion in this rapidly growing practice area. The ideal candidate will be supported by an experienced Elder Law Attorney and will collaborate with a strong team of paralegals and fellow attorneys. Duties

  • Draft legal documents, review applicable laws and statutes, and meet with clients to finalize estate plans
  • Conduct consultation meetings with potential clients, outlining the services provided and recommending legal courses of action
  • Deliver an exceptional client experience by maintaining regular communication and collaborating with the Client Experience team to provide a concierge-level service
  • Analyze client situations, understand their needs, and create a tailored strategic plan of action
  • Set appropriate boundaries with clients to ensure the firm’s profitability and protect attorneys from potential liability
  • Track and report billable hours efficiently for both hourly rate and flat-fee matters
  • Travel to other offices as needed to meet business and client requirements

Requirements

  • At least 5+ years of experience in elder law, estate planning, and trust administration
  • Active South Carolina law license (North Carolina license preferred)
  • CELA (Certified Elder Law Attorney) certification is a plus
  • Experience in estate planning, estate and trust administration, Medicaid planning, and long-term care benefits
  • Litigation experience in guardianship and estate litigation cases is a plus
  • Proficiency in billing and tracking billable time accurately
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, especially in high-stress, emotional situations
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to doing things right the first time
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with shared accountability for client outcomes
  • Compassionate and patient when dealing with clients, particularly those facing difficult personal situations
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently when necessary

Education

  • J.D. (Juris Doctor) degree

Certifications

  • South Carolina Bar License (North Carolina Bar License preferred)
  • CELA certification is a plus
