Job Title: Patent Prosecution and Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm located in Charlotte, NC, is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney or Patent Agent to join its esteemed Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group. The position offers an exciting opportunity for professionals with a background in patent prosecution and litigation to contribute to a high-performing team focused on Electrical Engineering & Software or Mechanical Engineering. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle complex intellectual property matters.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications, ensuring thorough and accurate documentation.
  • Provide strategic guidance and legal counsel on patent prosecution, litigation, and related IP matters.
  • Prepare and file responses to office actions and conduct interviews with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Conduct legal research and analysis related to patent laws and IP regulations.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their business needs and deliver tailored legal solutions.
  • Represent clients in patent litigation cases, including pre-litigation activities and litigation support.
  • Assist with the development of patent portfolios and strategies to protect clients’ intellectual property assets.
  • Participate in patent-related due diligence and investigations for corporate transactions.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 to 6 years of experience in patent prosecution, including application drafting.
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field such as Physics or Mathematics.
  • Experience or familiarity with additional forms of intellectual property is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be barred in North Carolina.
  • Registration with the USPTO is required.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Barred in the state of North Carolina.

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution and litigation.
  • Strong technical background in engineering or a related scientific discipline.
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects with attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Client-focused approach with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
