A law firm in Florham Park, NJ is seeking a Mid-Senior Biotech IP Patent Associate Attorney with a strong background in biological sciences. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, managing patent portfolios, and conducting due diligence investigations. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide strategic IP counsel to biotechnology clients while maintaining high standards of client service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, file, and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in the biotechnology and life sciences industries.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses for biotech innovations.
  • Manage patent portfolios, advising clients on IP strategy aligned with their business objectives.
  • Perform due diligence investigations for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing deals related to biotechnology patents.
  • Respond to office actions and interact with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices during prosecution.
  • Collaborate with partners, associates, and technical staff to develop comprehensive patent strategies for clients.
  • Provide legal opinions on issues of patent infringement, validity, and enforceability.
  • Assist in patent litigation matters, including oppositions, re-examinations, and appeals.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and developments in biotechnology and patent law to better serve clients.
  • Maintain and foster strong client relationships, providing proactive and tailored legal solutions to meet their needs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related scientific field.
  • Certification: Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Experience: 3-8 years of relevant experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, evaluating patent portfolios, and performing due diligence investigations, preferably in a law firm setting.

Skills and Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of biological sciences and the ability to apply technical expertise in patent law.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex scientific concepts to clients and colleagues.
