A law firm in Denver is seeking a detail-oriented Patent Agent with a background in electrical engineering, biotechnology, or related fields. This position offers a dynamic opportunity to work in the Intellectual Property practice group. The successful candidate will support in preparing and prosecuting patent applications, working closely with inventors and patent attorneys.

Duties

  • Partner with inventors to identify new, innovative products with patent potential.
  • Research existing patents to ensure clients’ inventions are novel and patentable.
  • Draft comprehensive patent applications in collaboration with the patent team.
  • Monitor the status of patent applications from initial submission to final approval, ensuring timelines are met.
  • Conduct regular ability searches to evaluate the potential for patentability.
  • Address client inquiries and resolve issues throughout the patent application process.
  • Correspond with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), responding to office actions and providing necessary documentation.
  • Maintain consistent billable hours while ensuring quality work and client satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related technical discipline is required. A Master’s or PhD is highly desirable.
  • Certifications: Must be registered with the USPTO or be actively working toward registration.
  • Experience: Previous experience in patent law or a technical field with exposure to intellectual property is preferred.
