A law firm in Miami, FL, specializing in intellectual property law seeks a skilled Chemistry IP Associate Attorney with expertise in patent prosecution and a strong background in chemistry. The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in chemistry, with a focus on organic chemistry preferred, or substantial industrial experience in organic chemistry. This role involves drafting and prosecuting chemistry patent applications, with a preference for candidates experienced in the pharmaceutical industry.

Job Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute chemistry patent applications, focusing on organic chemistry and pharmaceuticals.
  • Conduct patentability searches and analyses, preparing opinions on patent validity and infringement.
  • Advise clients on intellectual property matters, including patent strategy and portfolio management.
  • Assist in patent litigation, including drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery documents.
  • Collaborate with inventors, scientists, and engineers to understand inventions and prepare patent applications.

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in chemistry, organic chemistry, or a related field.
  • 2-6 years of experience practicing intellectual property law, specifically in patent prosecution.
  • Admission to at least one State Bar in the U.S. and registration to practice before the USPTO.
  • Strong academic credentials with a record of high achievement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.

Preferred Qualifications:
