A law firm in Sacramento, CA, is seeking a skilled Municipal Law Attorney with 5-10 years of experience in municipal transactional law. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in drafting ordinances and resolutions, handling public meetings, and navigating a wide range of issues affecting public agency clients. This role requires in-depth knowledge of open meeting laws, land use and planning, conflicts of interest, free speech regulations, public safety issues, and election law matters. The candidate must be licensed to practice law in California.

Duties:

  • Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents related to municipal law.
  • Provide legal advice and representation to public agency clients on a variety of municipal matters.
  • Handle and advise on open meeting laws, including compliance with the Brown Act and other relevant regulations.
  • Address land use and planning issues, including zoning, development agreements, and municipal code amendments.
  • Manage conflicts of interest and ethical issues involving public officials and municipal staff.
  • Advise on free speech regulations and public safety matters, including emergency response and public health regulations.
  • Address election law matters, including candidate qualifications, campaign finance, and voting rights.
  • Represent municipal clients in litigation and administrative proceedings.
  • Attend and provide legal counsel at public meetings, including city council, planning commission, and other governmental meetings.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with municipal clients, understanding their needs and providing tailored legal solutions.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Admission to practice law in California.
  • 5-10 years of experience practicing municipal transactional law.
  • Extensive experience in drafting ordinances, resolutions, and other municipal documents.
  • Proven ability to handle public meetings and advise on compliance with open meeting laws.
  • In-depth knowledge of land use and planning, conflicts of interest, free speech regulations, public safety issues, and election law matters.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
  • Proven ability to provide high-quality legal advice and representation to public agency clients.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-approved law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law in California.

Skills:

  • Extensive experience in municipal transactional law.
  • Strong understanding of open meeting laws, land use and planning, and other municipal issues.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and legal research skills.
