A law firm seeks a Technology Specialist or Patent Agent with a degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field to enhance its Electrical and Computer Technologies practice group. The successful candidate will contribute to the protection of intellectual property and foster innovation within the technology sector.

Duties

  • Review technical disclosures and engage in client discussions to gather insights into new inventions.
  • Conduct extensive literature and patent database searches to evaluate the patentability of innovations.
  • Create comprehensive written assessments regarding the feasibility of obtaining patent protection.
  • Draft clear and detailed patent applications.
  • Prepare effective responses to inquiries from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Formulate persuasive arguments for patentability to present to Patent Office Examiners.
  • Analyze patents as part of the intellectual property due diligence process for potential acquisitions or mergers.

Requirements

  • A degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and work effectively within team environments.
  • Strong judgment, maturity, and a curious approach to problem-solving.
  • Interpersonal skills essential for effective collaboration with business leaders, attorneys, scientists, engineers, inventors, and patent examiners.
  • A strong work ethic coupled with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

Education

  • Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a closely related area.

Certifications

  • No specific certifications are required, although relevant qualifications in patent law would be beneficial.
