Real Estate and Commercial Litigation / Transactional Attorney

A law firm seeks an experienced attorney with 10+ years of expertise in real estate and commercial litigation and transactional work. Based in New York, NY, this full-time position offers a dynamic opportunity to manage cases independently as well as in collaboration with a partner. The ideal candidate will handle a diverse caseload, including real estate litigation, commercial disputes, and transactional work, as well as assist in expanding the firm's practice into new areas. This role will involve managing both current and new cases in various courts and administrative agencies.

Duties:

• Manage real estate and commercial litigation cases, including landlord-tenant disputes, mortgage foreclosures, construction litigation, and defense against fiduciary breach claims.
• Handle transactional work, including drafting and negotiating leases, purchase agreements, and shareholder agreements for co-ops and condos.
• Represent clients in commercial and residential leasing, condo and co-op board matters, and construction contract negotiations.
• Prepare legal documents such as alteration agreements, amendments to bylaws, and management agreements for co-ops and condos.
• Advise clients in complex commercial disputes, including shareholder negotiations, fiduciary issues, and appeals in Appellate Divisions and District Courts.
• Represent clients in various courts, including state supreme and civil courts, as well as occasionally federal court.
• Assist in expanding the firm’s practice by handling new cases and identifying growth opportunities in real estate and commercial law.
• Collaborate with a partner to manage a caseload, offering guidance and support when needed.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience in real estate, commercial litigation, and transactional work, with a strong focus on landlord-tenant, mortgage foreclosure, construction, and fiduciary breach cases.
• Experience handling both litigation and transactional matters, including closings, leasing, and drafting agreements.
• Strong background in negotiating and drafting complex legal documents.
• Ability to manage multiple cases independently and collaborate with a partner.
• Experience in representing clients before administrative agencies and in federal and state courts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality legal documents.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Must be licensed to practice law in the state of New York, with an active Bar membership.

Skills:

• Proficient in real estate and commercial litigation processes and procedures.
• Strong experience with transactional work, including drafting and negotiating real estate contracts and agreements.
• Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage a variety of cases.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a team and expand a law practice.
