A law firm seeks a dedicated and motivated Associate Attorney to join its Family Law team in Mount Pleasant, MI. This full-time position offers the opportunity to handle a substantial caseload in family law, including pre-litigation, litigation, trial preparation, and trial. The ideal candidate will be an attorney with experience in family law, capable of managing cases independently and contributing to the firm’s commitment to exceptional client service.

Duties:

  • Manage a heavy caseload, handling family law cases from pre-litigation through trial.
  • Supervise and guide paralegals and other support staff in the preparation and management of cases.
  • Draft legal documents including pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
  • Provide counsel and legal representation to clients, focusing on divorce, custody, child support, and other family law matters.
  • Attend court hearings and trials, advocating effectively for clients.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and contribute to case strategy development.
  • Manage client relationships, ensuring clear communication and empathetic support throughout the legal process.
  • Participate in firm-wide initiatives and contribute to the growth of the Family Law division.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Michigan State Bar and in good standing.
  • 1-3 years of experience in family law, with a focus on divorce and child custody cases.
  • Strong litigation and trial preparation experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and supervise staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with clients in family law matters.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Michigan State Bar.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of family law and the legal process.
  • Excellent legal writing, research, and drafting skills.
  • Ability to handle complex family law cases and provide effective client representation.
