Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking a skilled Immigration Attorney for a remote position based in Puerto Rico. Location:

  • San Juan, Puerto Rico

Duties:

  • Explain immigration concepts and present strategic solutions to clients.
  • Represent non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
  • Manage a caseload, ensuring timely and effective case progression.
  • Visit and conduct intake interviews with detained individuals at detention centers.
  • Prepare various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions.
  • Review immigration applications and make necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations on changes in immigration law.
  • Meet with potential clients for strategic consultations and assess necessary strategies.
  • Develop strategies and prepare clients/witnesses for court hearings or USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis to clients, highlighting potential benefits or challenges in their cases.
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for a variety of immigration cases.

Requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in Immigration Law.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload effectively while moving legal cases forward.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with a team.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian Relief, EOIR cases, Detained Cases, Citizenship, and USCIS applications.
  • Experience using Case Management Software is preferred.
  • Ability to strategize and work effectively with clients, associates, and support staff.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Puerto Rico Bar or the ability to practice law in Puerto Rico.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research, writing, and case management abilities.
  • Expertise in handling removal defense and family-based immigration cases.
  • Ability to interact professionally with law enforcement, courts, and community organizations.
  • Proficiency in preparing and submitting immigration applications and legal briefs.
  • Strong strategic thinking and client counseling skills.
