Job Overview: A well-established intellectual property law firm is seeking a Associate Attorney with 2-3 years of patent prosecution experience. This position offers the opportunity to work on a fast-paced patent docket in a variety of technologies while contributing to intellectual property solutions for clients globally. The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering. Remote work options are available for those not residing in the Washington, DC area.

Duties:

  • Handle patent prosecution matters across various technology sectors.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of patent applications, responding to office actions, and providing technical and legal advice to clients.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and inventors to draft and file patent applications.
  • Conduct legal and technical research related to intellectual property matters.
  • Stay up to date on the latest developments in intellectual property law and relevant technologies.
  • Assist clients in managing their intellectual property portfolios and strategies.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to understand their patent needs and offer tailored solutions.

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Strong technical background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering.
  • Experience with drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with clients and team members.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Engineering.

Certifications:

  • Must be a registered Patent Agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution and patent law.
  • Strong research, analytical, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative approach with the team.
  • Familiarity with patent management software and tools.
