Mid-level Patent Litigation Associate

Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is seeking a mid-level Patent Litigation Associate to join its Intellectual Property and Technology group in Chicago. This role involves managing various aspects of patent, trademark, and copyright litigation, including drafting complaints, handling discovery, preparing contentions, taking depositions, and drafting dispositive motions and settlement agreements. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who thrives in a team environment and is eager to take on leadership responsibilities.

Location:

Duties:

• Handle all aspects of patent, trademark, and copyright litigation
• Draft complaints, legal briefs, and motions
• Manage discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests
• Prepare contentions and legal arguments
• Take and defend depositions
• Negotiate and draft settlement agreements
• Collaborate with team members to develop litigation strategies

Requirements:

• 3-4 years of litigation experience, preferably in patent litigation
• Experience with litigation processes, including discovery management, deposition preparation, and brief writing
• Patent Bar eligibility required
• Admission to practice in Illinois or eligibility for waiver
• Prior experience at a regional or national law firm preferred
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and within a team

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Patent Bar eligibility required
• Admitted to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for waiver)

• Strong litigation and advocacy skills
• Excellent legal research and writing abilities
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical capabilities
• Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines efficiently
