A law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a highly qualified Associate Attorney with a background in the biological sciences and expertise in intellectual property (IP) matters related to life sciences. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 1 year of substantive experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting patent analyses, and supporting various IP matters in cutting-edge technologies such as gene editing, cellular therapies, antibody-based therapeutics, and molecular diagnostics. This role requires excellent written and oral communication skills, a superior academic background, and a strong desire for teamwork, significant responsibility, and client interaction.

 

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the life sciences field.
  • Conduct patent validity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Support IP due diligences, patent litigations, and post-grant proceedings.
  • Provide legal advice on intellectual property matters in the life sciences sector.
  • Collaborate with clients and legal teams to develop strategic solutions.
  • Engage in client interaction to understand and address their specific needs.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of substantive experience in intellectual property law.
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred, or M.S. with industry experience) in biological sciences.
  • Registration to practice at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Admission to the State Bar, preferably in DC.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Superior academic background.
  • Desire for teamwork, significant responsibility, and client interaction.

 

Education:

Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred, or M.S.) in biological sciences.

 

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Admission to the State Bar, preferably in DC.
