Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a Junior Associate to join its Data Privacy and Cybersecurity team. This role is designed for an attorney with 2-3 years of relevant experience in privacy law. The successful candidate will work across a range of privacy issues, including compliance counseling, privacy incident response, and privacy litigation. The firm is open to candidates from various office locations, with a preference for Chicago and Dallas. This position offers a hybrid work schedule with in-office expectations on a weekly basis.

Location:

  • Houston, TX

Duties:

  • Handle privacy incident response and risk management.
  • Provide compliance counseling on privacy laws such as CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and state-specific biometric and health laws.
  • Assist with privacy litigation, including advising clients on privacy-related legal matters.
  • Draft and review privacy policies, agreements, and data protection contracts.
  • Stay current with emerging privacy laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and partners to address complex privacy matters.

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of relevant experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, or related areas.
  • Experience in privacy incident response, compliance counseling, or privacy litigation.
  • Knowledge of federal and state privacy laws, including CCPA, GLBA, HIPAA, and biometric privacy laws.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex legal matters.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • CIPP/US certification required (must obtain within one year if not already certified).
  • Admission to the State Bar in the jurisdiction of the office where the candidate will be working.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • In-depth understanding of privacy regulations and compliance requirements.
