Immigration Attorney - Legal Writing

A law firm seeks a highly skilled and experienced Immigration Attorney with expertise in legal writing and appellate work. This position is ideal for an attorney with at least 4 years of experience in immigration law, particularly in drafting memorandums, appeals, and motions to reopen. The role involves preparing high-quality legal documents for EOIR (Executive Office for Immigration Review) and federal circuit courts. You will have the opportunity to work on complex immigration cases, including those involving FOIA requests. Duties

• Draft comprehensive legal memorandums, appeals, and motions to reopen for immigration-related appellate work.
• Represent clients by preparing and filing appeals before EOIR, the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), and federal circuit courts.
• Focus on cases that require nuanced legal arguments, including the preparation of motions to reopen in complex immigration matters.
• Handle cases that involve FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests, analyzing documents to build legal strategies for appeals.
• Collaborate with the legal team to strategize and develop compelling case arguments, particularly for clients facing removal or seeking relief.
• Stay updated on changes and developments in immigration law, particularly those related to appellate and federal cases.
• Maintain organized case files and documentation, ensuring compliance with court rules and firm standards.

Requirements

• Experience:
  • A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in immigration law, with a strong focus on legal writing and appellate practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft successful appeals for EOIR, BIA, and federal circuit courts.
  • Experience with motions to reopen and handling FOIA-related cases.
• Skills:
  • Strong legal writing and research skills, with a proven ability to produce high-quality legal documents.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate with a legal team.
  • Proficiency in case management software is preferred.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
