Job Overview: A law firm in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a dedicated Patent Agent with 2-5 years of experience in patent prosecution. The ideal candidate will have strong academic credentials and expertise in organic, medicinal, and related fields. Industry experience is advantageous, and PTO registration is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patent prosecution activities before the USPTO, including drafting and filing patent applications, responding to office actions, and conducting examiner interviews.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to strategize patent protection efforts and manage patent portfolios.
  • Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Assist in due diligence investigations and intellectual property audits.
  • Stay updated with changes in patent laws and regulations.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably at the USPTO or in a law firm environment.
  • Excellent academic credentials focusing on organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or related fields; Ph.D. preferred, but candidates with an M.S. and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Proficiency in understanding chemical structures and properties.
  • Strong writing skills and analytical ability.
  • PTO registration is strongly preferred; candidates eligible to sit for the Patent Bar will also be considered.

Education and Certifications:

  • Ph.D. in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or similar specialties preferred.
  • PTO registration is strongly preferred; eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar will be considered.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution processes and USPTO procedures.
  • Ability to conduct thorough patent searches and analyses.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
