Job Overview:
A leading law firm is seeking a Senior Associate Attorney with 5-8 years of experience in general municipal law to join its growing municipal practice. This role is ideal for highly motivated and disciplined attorneys who are passionate about public service law and looking to advance their careers. The successful candidate will provide legal counsel to local agencies on a wide range of issues, with opportunities for professional growth and flexible working arrangements.

Location:

  • Sacramento, CA

Duties:

  • Advise local agencies on governance, contracting, labor and employment, economic development, housing, CEQA, and land use matters.
  • Handle legal issues related to public agency operations and decision-making.
  • Draft and review contracts, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal documents.
  • Provide counsel to public entities on compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Assist with public agency governance, including attending meetings and advising on Brown Act compliance.
  • Collaborate with other team members and clients to develop legal strategies.
  • (Optional) Participate in litigation matters related to municipal law, if experienced or interested.

Requirements:

  • 5-8 years of experience in general municipal law.
  • Broad experience advising on legal issues facing local public agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-sufficient, dedicated, and able to work independently.
  • Experience or interest in litigation is a plus but not required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the California State Bar (in good standing).

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills.
