Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney

A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking an Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney to join their team. Reporting to the Managing Criminal Defense Attorney, the ideal candidate will manage a caseload, interact with clients, and collaborate with a dedicated team of attorneys and legal assistants. This role involves advising clients, attending court proceedings, drafting legal documents, and conducting legal research. The candidate should have a strong interest in criminal defense law, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage a diverse caseload.

Duties:

• Manage a caseload and interact with clients, providing legal advice and support.
• Advise clients on their legal rights and prepare legal documents related to their cases.
• Attend pretrial hearings on behalf of clients and advise them on the best strategies post-hearing.
• Handle court appearances, trials, and draft motions.
• Interview witnesses, perform legal research, and analyze probable outcomes using knowledge of legal precedents.
• Manage and organize case workload effectively.
• Provide legal analysis to determine potential benefits and develop case strategies.
• Accumulate additional evidence to support client cases or counter the prosecution's charges.
• Prepare clients for depositions, determine case strategy goals, and gather supporting information from witnesses and experts.
• Demonstrate a commitment to criminal defense law through school clinics, volunteer work, or internships.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctorate degree is required.
• Active Bar admission or pending admission is required (law graduates awaiting admission will also be considered).
• Demonstrated interest in criminal defense law through law school clinics, volunteer work, or internships.
• Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
• Proven record of managing caseloads and advancing legal cases.
• Experience with case management software is preferred.

Education:

• Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA Accredited Law School is required.

Certifications:

• Active Bar admission (law graduates awaiting admission will also be considered).

Skills:

• Proficiency in legal research and drafting motions.
• Strong analytical skills and understanding of legal precedents.
