Job Overview:

A law firm in Philadelphia, PA, seeks a dedicated and detail-oriented Patent Agent to support its patent prosecution practice. The successful candidate will assist clients in protecting their technological innovations by drafting and prosecuting patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and supporting due diligence efforts. This role demands a strong understanding of patent law and technical expertise in relevant scientific fields.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications through the USPTO.
  • Conduct thorough patent searches and analyses.
  • Prepare and file responses to Office Actions and other USPTO correspondence.
  • Assist with patent-related due diligence and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to gather necessary technical and legal information.
  • Manage multiple assignments from various partners and clients, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Review and analyze prior art and patent claims to assess patentability and infringement issues.
  • Provide technical and legal support in patent portfolio management and strategy.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience as a Patent Agent.
  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry, applied chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and Patent Bar eligible.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education:

  • Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry, applied chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of patent law and procedures.
  • Strong technical background in relevant scientific disciplines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical abilities.
