Job Overview: A law firm in Richmond, Virginia, is seeking a skilled and experienced CFIUS and International Trade/Export Controls Associate Attorney to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in handling international trade regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters, with a particular focus on CFIUS and U.S. export control regulations. The attorney will provide counsel on complex legal issues surrounding cross-border transactions, export controls, and national security concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on matters related to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), including the preparation and submission of CFIUS filings.
  • Provide legal guidance on U.S. export control laws, particularly the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • Counsel clients on compliance with the Defense Priorities & Allocation System (DPAS), when applicable.
  • Conduct regulatory due diligence in cross-border transactions involving foreign investments, exports, and defense-related industries.
  • Assist clients in responding to government enforcement actions, investigations, and audits involving export controls and international trade laws.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements related to international trade and export control issues.
  • Stay current with developments in CFIUS, export controls, and international trade regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to develop comprehensive compliance strategies.
  • Represent clients before government agencies, including the U.S. Departments of Commerce, State, and Defense, as well as other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Experience: 2-4 years of legal experience focused on international trade regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters.
  • Knowledge:
    • Expertise in CFIUS and U.S. export control regulations (including ITAR and EAR).
    • Familiarity with the Defense Priorities & Allocation System (DPAS) is preferred.
  • Bar Admission: Must be admitted and actively barred in Virginia.

Educational Background:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
