A reputable law firm is seeking an experienced and dedicated Consumer Debt Defense Attorney licensed in South Carolina to join its growing team. This remote, full-time position offers an opportunity to provide legal representation and assistance to individuals involved in debt collection lawsuits. The firm offers a supportive environment focused on resolving cases through voluntary settlements rather than complex litigation.

Duties:

  • Represent and defend clients in debt collection cases initiated by original creditors or debt buyers.
  • Provide limited-scope legal assistance to clients, including reviewing and editing pro se answer drafts prepared by paralegals.
  • Focus on negotiating voluntary payment arrangements with creditors, aiming to resolve cases without the need for litigation.
  • When necessary, attend final hearings or work with local coverage counsel for in-person appearances.
  • Handle a manageable caseload with minimal travel required.

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of South Carolina.
  • At least 5 years of prior civil litigation experience.
  • Prior experience in consumer debt defense and/or collections is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to work with clients and team members effectively.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in the state of South Carolina.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of consumer debt defense and collections law.
  • Excellent legal research, drafting, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage a caseload efficiently.
  • Strong negotiation skills to resolve matters without litigation.
