Aviation Finance Associate (Mid-Level)

A law firm seeks a mid-level associate (Class of 2016 to 2019) to join its Finance practice group in New York, focusing on aviation-related transactions. This is an excellent opportunity for an associate to engage with a diverse portfolio of clients, including major banks, leasing companies, airlines, investors, and manufacturers. The role involves handling complex aviation finance transactions, including financing, leasing, restructuring, and enforcement, as well as the creation of joint ventures and aircraft leasing platforms.

Duties:

• Manage and close complex aviation-related transactions, including financing, leasing, and trading.
• Handle secured and unsecured financing transactions, with a deep understanding of security interests under Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code and the Cape Town Convention.
• Draft and negotiate a range of financial and commercial documents, including credit agreements, indentures, leases, and purchase agreements.
• Advise clients on the interpretation of aviation finance and leasing documentation, both orally and in writing.
• Collaborate with multiple internal and external stakeholders to manage various transactions simultaneously.
• Stay current on aviation industry trends and developments in aviation finance and leasing.

Requirements:

• 6 to 9 years of experience in aviation finance, including experience with large-scale financing transactions.
• Strong knowledge of secured, unsecured, and guaranteed financing transactions.
• Familiarity with the Cape Town Convention and related international finance regulations.
• Experience drafting, negotiating, and interpreting credit agreements, leases, purchase agreements, and other aviation finance documents.
• Proven ability to manage multiple clients and matters at once, with strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Admission to practice law in New York.

Education:

• A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school.

Certifications:

• Active membership in the New York State Bar.

Skills:

• Strong drafting, negotiating, and organizational abilities.
• Deep understanding of aviation finance and leasing regulations.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Solid experience in managing client relationships and advising on complex financial transactions.
• Knowledge of export credit agency-supported financing and capital markets transactions is a plus, but not required.
