Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm based in Austin, TX, is actively seeking an experienced legal professional to join its expanding Affordable Housing and Community Development practice. The ideal candidate will bring deep transactional knowledge in affordable housing matters and a collaborative mindset, contributing to impactful projects across Texas and beyond. This role offers an opportunity to work with a broad spectrum of clients including private developers, nonprofit organizations, institutional investors, and public agencies, focusing on projects that shape the housing landscape and foster equitable development.

Duties:

  • Led and managed a diverse range of affordable housing transactions from inception through closing.

  • Draft, revise, and negotiate complex legal documents related to financing, acquisition, and development.

  • Conduct due diligence and identify potential legal risks, offering strategic solutions.

  • Represent clients in transactions involving federal and state tax credit programs (e.g., LIHTC – both 4% and 9%).

  • Interface directly with clients, regulatory bodies, and opposing counsel.

  • Provide legal counsel on matters involving refinancing, exits, dispositions, and incentive-based developments.

  • Coordinate with cross-disciplinary teams on large-scale housing and mixed-use projects.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a law firm setting, focused on affordable housing or real estate finance.

  • Substantial background in handling tax credit transactions and housing development incentives.

  • Experience advising any of the following: developers, lenders, investors, or syndicators (experience with multiple perspectives preferred).

  • Proficiency in identifying issues early and resolving them efficiently during transactional processes.

  • Ability to manage complex projects with competing deadlines.

  • Strong client-facing communication abilities and high attention to detail.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active Bar membership in Texas (mandatory).

Skills:

  • Advanced legal drafting and negotiation skills.

  • Deep understanding of affordable housing regulations, tax credit programs, and funding mechanisms.

  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
