Job Overview:
A well-established regional law firm is seeking a Tax Associate to join its Tax Group in either the Portland or Seattle office. This position offers the opportunity to support a wide range of tax services, including tax planning, transactional work, and tax controversy. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience in tax law, strong client service skills, and a demonstrated interest in the field. An LLM in Taxation or a CPA license is preferred, but not required. This role provides the chance to work within a collaborative environment with a focus on professional growth and development.

Location:

Duties:

  • Provide support for tax planning, transactional tax work, and tax controversy services
  • Work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide tailored legal advice
  • Draft tax-related documents, including contracts, agreements, and filings
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing tax returns and tax compliance matters
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on complex tax issues
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and external parties
  • Participate in team discussions and collaborate with cross-practice teams to address client needs

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in tax law, with a focus on tax planning and controversy
  • JD degree from an accredited law school (required)
  • LLM in Taxation or CPA license preferred
  • Oregon or Washington State Bar admission or eligibility for immediate reciprocity required
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong client service orientation
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage time effectively
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • LLM in Taxation or CPA license preferred
  • Oregon or Washington State Bar admission or eligibility for immediate reciprocity required

Skills:

  • Knowledge of tax law, including planning, transactional work, and tax controversy
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate complex tax concepts clearly and concisely
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with clients and internal teams
