A law firm in Philadelphia, PA is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Associate Attorney with a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field. The role requires expertise in drafting patent applications and prosecuting patents before the USPTO and international patent offices, with

additional emphasis on providing litigation support and risk management advice.

 

Duties:

  • Draft patent applications and manage the prosecution process before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and global patent offices.
  • Conduct patentability searches and analyses.
  • Provide strategic intellectual property counseling to clients.
  • Assist in intellectual property litigation and pre-litigation matters.
  • Manage intellectual property portfolios and provide risk assessment and mitigation strategies.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or closely related scientific field.
  • Admission to practice law in Pennsylvania or eligible for admission by waiver.
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO is mandatory.
  • 4-8 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably focusing on Organic Chemistry or related fields.

 

Education:

Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or closely related scientific field.

 

Certifications (Preferred):

Certification in Intellectual Property Law.

 

Skills:

  • Proficiency in drafting patent applications and responding to office actions.
  • Strong understanding of patent prosecution procedures and strategies.
  • Ability to perform thorough patent searches and analyses.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
