A law firm in Chesapeake, VA, is seeking an Associate Attorney with 1+ years of bankruptcy and/or creditor’s rights experience. The ideal candidate will primarily manage bankruptcy matters, including contested or litigated cases, and will draft and review all pleadings and claims filed in these matters. They will respond to objections and motions involving client rights, attend scheduled hearings, and handle general firm-wide bankruptcy inquiries. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for document preparation and execution, regular client communication, and monitoring electronic filings. The position requires a high volume workload and client contact.

 

Duties:

  • Manage contested or litigated bankruptcy matters.
  • Draft and review all pleadings and claims filed in bankruptcy cases.
  • Respond to objections and motions related to client rights.
  • Attend scheduled hearings.
  • Handle general firm-wide bankruptcy inquiries.
  • Prepare and execute legal documents.
  • Monitor electronic filings (ECFs) and communicate regularly with clients.
  • Maintain knowledge of bankruptcy rules/laws and general creditor rights laws.
  • Utilize case management systems and the CM/ECF filing system.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • 1+ years of bankruptcy and/or creditor’s rights experience.
  • License to practice law in Florida preferred, but the firm will consider licenses in other states.
  • Knowledge of the Bankruptcy Code and consumer loan documents.
  • Familiarity with Florida bankruptcy courts, local rules, and court procedures preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Advanced computer literacy.

 

Certifications:

Admission to practice law in Florida and/or other relevant jurisdictions preferred.

 

Skills:

  • Understanding of bankruptcy laws and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume workload and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency in utilizing different case management systems.
  • Attention to detail and strong work ethic.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Experience with bankruptcy litigation matters is a plus.
